Here are our three key takeaways from the game.

Tottenham falling apart at the death

It's been a bad week for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou.

Beaten at home against title-chasing Arsenal, they then fell to defeat at Stamford Bridge to a rejuvenated Chelsea and have now added a loss at Anfield to their CV.

It means that they have lost four successive games in the Premier League for the first time since 2004, a record that, in true Tottenham fashion, has come tumbling down just as Champions League football appeared in reach.

Their stats make a tough read for Spurs fans too: In the four games, they have conceded 13 times and scored 5, and they have seen their chances of Champions League football next season all but disappear with a seven point gap to Aston Villa ahead of the final games of the season, which they can cut to four if they win their game in hand.

Though still likely progress from finishing outside a European spot last season, it is far from the finish that Spurs would have taken at the midway point of the campaign.

Son and Salah are inevitable

Liverpool vs Tottenham is rarely a dull fixture in recent years, and that is largely thanks to talismanic pair Mohamed Salah and Heung-Min Son.

Both found themselves on the scoresheet once more this afternoon to continue their crazy records against one another. For Salah, it was his 12th goal against Spurs, and he can only boast a better return against one other club in his career, arch-enemies Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's star ensured that he joined Jamie Vardy in scoring against Liverpool in five successive Premier League games when he grabbed Spurs' second goal 13 minutes from time.

With the pair now approaching the twilights of their careers, they are showing no signs of slowing down or passing on the mantle.

Is the real Cody Gakpo finally standing up?

Much was made of Liverpool beating Manchester United to the signing of Cody Gakpo back in January of 2023, but he has mostly flattered to deceive in his 18 months at Anfield.

Against Tottenham though, he turned in one of his best performances in a Liverpool shirt. Grabbing an assist for Mo Salah's opener with a deft cross, he then added a header five minutes into the second half to make it 3-0 and quash any early second half fightback from the Lilywhites.

Clearly talented, he needs to find consistency for the Reds to really become a key player under incoming boss Arne Slot, but there are signs that he may be adjusting to life in the Premier League quite well.
