Darwin Nunez has been under widespread scrutiny over the last few weeks as he endures a difficult spell in front of goal.

Matters reached a head in the aftermath of the Uruguayan’s poor showing as a substitute during Liverpool’s 4-2 Premier League win against Tottenham at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has been much maligned in the wake of the game for his errant finishing, with one chance which he allowed Guglielmo Vicario to save being pointed out as a particularly poor attempt.

Some fans after the game posted severe and unwarranted abuse towards Nunez on social media, with the striker then deciding to remove ALL posts pertaining to Liverpool from his Instagram account.

Premier League winner Chris Sutton believes the social media move reveals a player who is DEEPLY UNHAPPY in his current surroundings and he wouldn’t be surprised if the former Benfica star sought a way out of the club this summer.

However, Sutton also added that it would be 'a pretty dumb move' on the part of Darwin to reveal his feelings if he wanted to go about seeking a move in secret.

Given that Liverpool paid so much for Nunez and he is under contract until 2028, it will be no easy feat to remove him from Anfield.

Sutton: Darwin looks to be on his way

“If somebody does that I assume he wants out or is off somewhere,” the former Chelsea striker told the It’s All Kicking Off podcast of Darwin's social media move.

“If he’s doing stuff like that, he’s certainly brought attention to it and you’ve cottoned on to it. At least years ago when players wanted to leave they didn’t have all this nonsense, they could have all their own thoughts and keep it under wraps.

“It’s a pretty dumb move from his point of view if he wanted a move to sneak under the radar, or the way he’s feeling at this particular time to sneak under the radar, and nobody cotton on to something.

“Why has he done it? It just looks like he’s going to be on his way, or he’s deeply unhappy with the club.”

Darwin has scored 18 goals in 52 games for the Reds this season, providing another 13 assists, but hasn’t found the back of the net in any of his last six Premier League matches.
