Eder Militao’s return to complete fitness is big news for Real Madrid, not only because he is vital for the business end of the season but also because the Brazilian is seen as the future of the team’s defence.

Looking to the future, however, Los Blancos do not have a player who can partner Eder Militao, who has repeatedly shown how vital he is for the team. Thus, the club’s agenda is to rope in such a presence this summer.

Leny Yoro is the player who has extensively been linked with the team on that front, but Defensa Central now reveal that a Premier League superstar is also a potential option.

The Merseyside option

According to the Spanish outlet, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has stated that he feels the club captain Virgil Van Dijk is only one call away from signing for Real Madrid.

The Dutch superstar deeply wishes to don the prestigious white colour and would not be opposed to a move to Spain. His contract which runs out in 2025 only complicates his situation.

“I am worried that Virgil Van Dijk’s contract is about to expire. In July he turns 33 and if his agent called the Real Madrid sports director they would take him away,” the former Liverpool player said recently.

Real Madrid’s priority

The same report, however, continues to explain that Real Madrid are currently not in favour of signing the Premier League star.

They would prioritise the signing of a young player who can take over for the long haul instead. At 32 years of age, Van Dijk does not help the team’s future in any way.

While indeed one of the best in the business, he is simply not in the right stage of his career to push for a move to Real Madrid.

The club’s focus, thus, continues to be on Leny Yoro’s signing from Lille come June.
