Tierney has been involved in a couple of blunders this season, where he appeared to forget some of the rules.

The referee first made headlines incorrectly turning the ball over to Liverpool after stopping play for an injury with Nottingham Forest in possession.

The official then mistakenly asked Kai Havertz to leave the field during Arsenal’s recent match against Wolves, putting Mikel Arteta’s side at a disadvantage for no reason.

The rules state that a player doesn’t have to leave the pitch if an opponent is booked for a foul on them, which is what happened in this case.

On the other hand, Arsenal have had a pretty good record with Tierney refereeing this season, winning three games and drawing the other.

Arsenal did lose 3-1 with Tierney refereeing at Old Trafford last season, but there can be no excuses this weekend. The Gunners simply have to get the three points.

Arsenal’s title rival Manchester City play against Fulham on Saturday and Tottenham Hotspur the following Tuesday, and the officials for those two games have also been confirmed.

Anthony Taylor will referee the Fulham clash, with Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn as his assistants, Keith Stroud as fourth official, David Coote on VAR and Dan Robathan assisting.

Then Chris Kavanagh will take the Spurs game, with Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan assisting him, Graham Scott as the fourth official, and Michael Salisbury and Scott Ledger on VAR.
