Sky Sports expert’s verdict – Interesting on Newcastle United ahead of Brentford match

The Sky Sports column ‘Jones Knows’ has given some interesting analysis and commentary on what is currently the position at Newcastle United.

The column makes predictions on what will happen at certain Premier League matches and also debates other matters / issues at clubs as well.

However, unlike the usual ex-pro predictions, that are usually simply based on how ‘big’ a club is and whether or not they won the previous game, this one has proper analysis and insight, not lazy assumptions.

The Sky Sports ‘Jones Knows’ column looks at the matches from a betting perspective and has been concentrating on this Newcastle United game away at Brentford.

Lewis Jones (who is the Sky Sports expert behind the ‘Jones Knows’ column) has highlighted some major underlying factors that could / should have a big bearing on this Brentford v Newcastle game.

“Newcastle still have a lot to play for.

“A victory would put them in a very good spot to play European football next season, something that is very important for Eddie Howe.

“That could either be by finishing sixth if beating Brentford and Chelsea losing – or by finishing seventh by bettering Manchester United’s result at Brighton. If that happens then they’d need Man City to beat [Man] United in the FA Cup, so seventh place would result in a Europa Conference League spot. City are 1/9 with Sky Bet to win at Wembley, so seventh should be enough.

“A pro-Toon bet has to be the play but they look short enough at 23/20 with Sky Bet for the away win, so I’m heading to the goalscorer market where Joelinton stands out at 5/1 with Sky Bet to score.

“His influence has been sorely missed by Howe’s side and he looked very sharp off the bench at Manchester United, posting three shots in his 28 minutes of action.

“If he starts, he’s a big price to score.

“Score prediction: Brentford 2 Newcastle 3”

Always interesting to hear what the Sky Sports expert has to say with his analysis on Newcastle United matches.

All but three of the last 19 Newcastle United Premier League matches, have seen NUFC and their opponents score at least one goal each. Those last 19 Newcastle games seeing 83 goals scored, 45 of those goals scored by NUFC players, 38 by their opponents.

So a high scoring 3-2 away win isn’t a bad shout for the Sky Sports expert.

Joelinton to score today?

He could and maybe should have scored against Man U on Wednesday night but he has only scored twice this season so far in the Premier League, though he did get that cracking goal in the Champions League at home to AC Milan.

During Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle United, Joelinton has scored 12 Premier League goals, with two of them actually coming against today’s opponents. The Brazilian scoring in Howe’s first ever match, a 3-3 draw at St James’ Park, then also away from home that season in a 2-0 win, that kicking off a run of four wins in a row (home and away) for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle against Brentford.

If they make it five wins in a row today then a nice way to round off the season and nobody will be complaining if that includes one or more goals for Joelinton, with the Brazilian very likely to be returning to today’s starting eleven.
