A point will be enough for the Yorkshire outfit to secure their place in the Championship for another year.

Danny Rohl’s side earned an impressive 3-0 win over play-off contenders West Brom to move three points clear of the relegation zone.

Poveda has played his role in helping the club move out of the bottom three in recent weeks, having signed for Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Leeds United during the winter market.

Ian Poveda will attract Championship summer interest

FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Callum Maxted believes Wednesday’s best chance of signing Poveda on a permanent basis this summer would be if they survived in the Championship. The winger is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer, which will mean he's available on a free transfer.

Maxted has praised the player’s performances and has claimed he will have no shortage of offers from second tier sides in the upcoming transfer window.

“I don’t think he’d take the step down, to be honest,” Maxted told Football League World.

“I think his performances have warranted him a move in the Championship, and he won’t be short of suitors, so I think if we’re in this league then there’s every chance we could sign him.

“But I don’t think if we’re in League One that it’d happen.

“I think he’s too good for it as well.

“It’s hard because he’s such a talented player, but obviously injuries have played a part in it as well.

“But I can’t see him dropping down a league, I think his talents are Championship level.”

Sheffield Wednesday's survival battle

Sheffield Wednesday currently sit 20th in the Championship table, but only need a draw from their trip to the Stadium of Light this weekend to avoid relegation.

Rohl’s side is unbeaten in their last five games, which has proved crucial to their rise out of the relegation zone.

Three wins in that run has lifted them ahead of Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.

They will face Sunderland on 4 May in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Poveda likely to move away from Leeds this summer

Poveda was unable to break into Farke’s first team plans at Leeds this season, playing just seven times before moving to Wednesday on loan.

He has enjoyed a positive loan spell at Hillsborough and will will want to go somewhere that he gets regular first team opportunities when he moves on from Elland Road this summer.

If Rohl remains in charge at Wednesday, then sticking with the Owls could be a sensible next step for his career.

The German has proven to be an excellent coach and has utilised the 24-year-old well since he’s arrived from Leeds, so it could be worthwhile extending that relationship beyond this loan spell.
