The best stats of the Bundesliga weekend

Matchday 12 was another fascinating weekend of action in Germany’s top flight, and we’ve got the statistics to prove it.

First up, a big congratulations to Jupp Heynckes, who became the first person to notch up 500 Bundesliga wins – both as a player and a coach – with Bayern Munich‘s comfortable 3-0 victory over Augsburg on Saturday.

That result also saw Die Roten become the first club to rack up over 3000 points since the Bundesliga’s inception in 1962.

Heynckes’ dog Cando – who convinced the 72-year-old to return to the Allianz Arena hot-seat by barking twice following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure – must be very proud.

Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski has scored more goals against Augsburg than any other club (18) and his brace on Saturday means he’s now netted at least twice in 44 Bundesliga games – a feat only surpassed by German legend Gerd Müller and Lewy’s coach, Jupp Heynckes!

A manager whose dog (if he has one) will be less proud of him after this weekend is Peter Bosz. Borussia Dortmund‘s 2-1 defeat away at Stuttgart on Friday night was their third in a row, which is their longest losing streak for three years.

But newly promoted Stuttgart‘s victory means they’re still unbeaten at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in 2017, with an impressive 12 wins and three draws.

In fact, the victory over Dortmund was Die Schwaben’s 500th home Bundesliga win. Only Hamburg and Werder Bremen have better home records in the history of the league.

And Stuttgart goalkeeper Ron Robert-Zieler saved the first of the 23 penalties he’s faced in the Bundesliga. Unfortunately for him, BVB still scored from the rebound.

Bottom club Cologne‘s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mainz on Saturday was the eighth time they’ve failed to score in 12 Bundesliga matches this season. The Billy Goats’ failure to adequately replace Anthony Modeste in the summer is absolutely killing them this season.

And Cologne, along with Hertha BSC, have now conceded five penalties this season – the highest in the league.

Speaking of Hertha, their 4-2 defeat at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday means they’ve now conceded in each of their last 11 matches. The Olympiastadion is the place to be for goals this season, although the home supporters perhaps wish that wasn’t the case.

Dieter Hecking has now taken 50 points from 30 games as Gladbach coach. Only Hennes Weisweller and Udo Lattek have a better record from their first 30 games in charge of Die Fohlen.

Another club with whom goals are becoming synonymous is Bayer Leverkusen. Die Werkself’s 2-2 draw with RB Leipzig on Saturday means they’ve now scored in each of their last 17 games, which is the longest run of any Bundesliga club!

And finally, Freiburg set a new season record for distance covered away at Wolfsburg on Saturday. But even covering a whopping 128.8 kilometres couldn’t save them from a 3-1 defeat, which leaves them third-bottom of the table.
