A short while ago, there were doubts swirling around Arda Guler’s future with Real Madrid as the competition was stiff, and he was struggling with fitness.

Nonetheless, despite the uncertainty in the media, Real Madrid remained committed to Guler, believing firmly in his abilities.

Now, things have taken a turn for the good. Guler is having the best season of his career as he has netted six goals in just ten league appearances, including a notable brace against Villarreal.

Although talk of Guler being loaned out circulated earlier, manager Carlo Ancelotti made it clear that he would stay at Real Madrid beyond this season.

Interestingly, Carlos Carpio’s report for MARCA highlights several reasons why Madrid decided to stick with him after all.

Bad experience of loan

Firstly, Madrid had some bad experiences with loaning out promising young players in the past. So now, they have adjusted their approach, preferring to give these players a few minutes on the field with the first team.

This way, they can oversee their development and training intensity closely, rather than sending them off to lower-tier clubs where playing time might be scarce.

Competition will be tougher next season

Secondly, Madrid foresaw tougher competition ahead, especially with the potential arrivals of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick.

Furthermore, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos potentially staying on, Guler would face stiff competition for minutes next season. However, Ancelotti’s knack for squad management instils confidence in the club.

Madrid want to test Guler more

Thirdly, Guler’s competitive spirit sets him apart. Despite his youth, he has earned the respect of seasoned players like Modric and Kroos.

He does not see himself as a mere mascot but as a player capable of matching the skill and intensity of his teammates.

In essence, Real Madrid’s decision to retain Guler stems from a combination of past lessons, future challenges, and the player’s drive to succeed. It is a testament to their belief in his potential and their commitment to nurturing young talent within the club.
