Virgil van Dijk has offered a defiant response on his Liverpool future following recent reports linking him with an Anfield exit this summer.

The Reds skipper has been hailed for his imperious form this season after a difficult 2022/23 campaign, but question marks over his future persist.

The Dutch international will be 33 by the time the new season rolls around and is out of contract in 2025, with recent reports suggesting that he could be in line for a summer move away from Anfield.

While Van Dijk has spoken positively about likely next Liverpool boss Arne Slot, Jurgen Klopp's imminent exit has further thrown the centre-back's future into doubt, especially given the Reds are never keen on handing lucrative contracts to older players.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness had previously claimed that Van Dijk was 'obviously unhappy' at Liverpool, but the former Southampton man has provided a clear response to recent rumours.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK OFFERS FUTURE UPDATE

Despite speculation, Van Dijk has made it clear that he's happy at Anfield and wants to be part of the 'big transition' the club is going through at present.

Speaking after Liverpool's 4-2 win over Tottenham on Sunday, Van Dijk stated: "There will be a big transition [when Klopp leaves] and I am part of that.

"I think the club is very much busy with who is going to be the new manager and that is the main focus. Like I said I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that as well.

"It's a big part of my life already, and that is all I can say.

"There will be a lot of changes happening and, I wouldn't say scary is the right word, but it is quite interesting and exciting what will happen now."

Van Dijk was reportedly disappointed about Klopp's decision to leave the Reds, but he acknowledges that it has been an honour to play for the German coach.

"I am really proud I played for him, fought for the badge and him and count the success we had over the years as well," said Van Dijk.

"It will be emotional on the last day but it is a part of life sometimes. Many things are happening behind the scenes but we focus on matchdays and that is our duty, our job and we want to perform for the last six points."

Liverpool finish the season with clashes against Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Van Dijk's future likely to be addressed by the club in the coming months.
