Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has pledged to remain at the club and help them in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Klopp will end his nine-year stay at Anfield this summer and is expected to be replaced by Feyenoord's Arne Slot.

The Reds are also at risk of losing several key players, with Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all out of contract in 2025.

But the Dutch defender has vowed to stay at Liverpool and be part of an "exciting" transitional period.

"There will be a big transition and I am part of that," Van Dijk said. "I think the club is very much busy with who is going to be the new manager and that is the main focus. Like I said I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that as well.

"It's a big part of my life already, and that is all I can say. There will be a lot of changes happening and, I wouldn't say scary is the right word, but it is quite interesting and exciting what will happen now."

Klopp has only two games remaining as Liverpool manager, with the Reds heading to Champions League-chasing Aston Villa on Monday night before ending the season at home to Wolves.

"I am really proud I played for him, fought for the badge and him and count the success we had over the years as well," Van Dijk said of Klopp.

"It will be emotional on the last day but it is a part of life sometimes. Many things are happening behind the scenes but we focus on matchdays and that is our duty, our job and we want to perform for the last six points."

Liverpool sit five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal heading into the season's final fortnight and their hopes of ending Klopp's reign with one last title are all but over.

Slot, who recently teased that an announcement over his future could soon be coming, will also leave Feyenoord without another league title after they recently surrendered their Eredivisie crown to PSV Eindhoven. Like Klopp though, Slot secured a domestic trophy this season, with Feyenoord winning the Dutch Cup.
