Ruben Amorim travelled to London on Monday in order to weigh up a proposal from West Ham to become successor to David Moyes.

The Sporting CP manager took advantage of two days off, following his side’s 3-0 victory over Vitoria Guimaraes at the weekend, flying to London by private jet for negotiations with the Premier League side.

The 39-year-old was later spotted at Lisbon airport, in the early hours of Tuesday, after his lightning quick trip to the British capital.

Portuguese media understands that negotiations between Amorim, Raul Costa - his representative - and the Hammers took place with the coach now planning a Liga Portugal game against Porto on Sunday which could see Sporting crowned champions for the second time since 2021.

A BOLA claims that West Ham came into the running for Amorim around the same time that his name appeared in connection to the Liverpool job at the start of April, following Xabi Alonso’s decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for another season at least.

‘Concrete’ West Ham offer to Amorim revealed

The Portuguese outlet also reveals that West Ham made a concrete offer for the former midfielder, and offered EVEN MORE MONEY than the sums connected to the Liverpool post.

Amorim was also reportedly promised significant control over the makeup of the squad at West Ham, a prerequisite to him taking on any coaching role.

The Irons are looking to move on from Moyes following a stop-start campaign with a hugely promising squad failing to make an impact at the top end of the table.

They have won only one of their last seven league games and have suffered hammerings at the hands of Fulham (5-0), Arsenal (6-0) and Crystal Palace (5-2) this season.

The East London team currently sit eighth in the Premier League with an outside chance of European qualification.

Interest in the Europa League this season was ended by Alonso’s Leverkusen at the quarter-final stage.

As well as Amorim, West Ham are thought to have assessed two other Portuguese managers in the shape of Lille boss Paulo Fonseca - also spoken to by Liverpool - and Fulham’s Marco Silva.

Liverpool move on from Amorim

The race for Amorim has intensified in recent days, however, with the manager travelling to London with the full knowledge of Sporting club president Federico Varandas and sporting director Hugo Viana.

A BOLA states that Amorim’s agent informed West Ham that the possibility of his client discussing terms with Liverpool remained open although it remains to be seen if the Reds follow through.

A final decision over West Ham’s offer is expected to become official at the end of the season with Sporting only two wins away from winning the title.

Arne Slot is now named as Liverpool’s preferred candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp, having guided Feyenoord to the Dutch league title last year and the Dutch cup last week.
