Xabi Alonso has officially ended talk about his future by confirming he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen next season.

The Spanish tactician is currently Europe’s most in-demand coach with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all believed to be keen on his services.

But the 42-year-old has revealed he will remain at the BayArena and continue his work with the Werkself next term.

“We have had a lot of speculation regarding my future… I wanted to use the international break to reflect and take a decision. Last week, I had a very good meeting and informed the club my decision to continue being coach,” he told a press conference on Friday.

When asked about his links to those three European superpowers, Alonso said: “I think it wouldn’t be correct for me to talk about other clubs when they’re in this situation.

For sure they are clubs that I have a strong link with – I played there, so I respect them, but it wouldn’t be correct to talk about them. It’s more about my conviction that I’m at the right place in Leverkusen.

“At this stage of my young career as a coach, it’s early to talk about these things.”

Leverkusen are currently leading the Bundesliga by 10 points and face Hoffenheim this weekend.
