Xavi comments show door is OPEN for £100m Liverpool man to Barcelona | OneFootball

Xavi had some interesting comments this week that suggest the door is open at Barcelona for them to sign a Liverpool forward.

A lot has been made of Barcelona wanting to sign players from Liverpool. El Nacional recently claimed that both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were on their agenda - and both wanted the move.

Now, El Nacional is not reliable at all, if we're being entirely honest, and fans should take that all with as much salt as possible. But the Diaz side of things may have some truth to them.

His Dad publicly talked late last year of an apparent 'dream' of his son's to play for Barcelona. He's not exactly the first Liverpool player to hold that dream.

There have supposedly been talks between his agent and Barcelona about a potential move, only for the Catalonians to decide he was too expensive. Deals above £100m would be too much, it seems.

However, Barca could be freeing up funds this summer. TeamTalk reports that Raphinha could be on the move, with Tottenham Hotspur interested.

Not only would that bring in money, it would open up a space in the forward line for a new player. But he might not be the only one to leave.

Xavi was asked this week about the future of Robert Lewandowski as Al-Ahli are interested in the Pole. He left the door wide open for an exit.

"We truly appreciate Lewandowski in the team and will make a decision at the end of the season," he told a press conference.

And with that door open, there could be room for Luis Diaz to walk through it.

Luis Diaz's future

Diaz certainly has reasons to push for a move. For one, he remains on his initial Liverpool contract, having never signed a new one with a pay rise.

That puts him among the lowest earners in the first-team squad. Nunez, for comparison, arrived six months later but reportedly earns comfortably over twice Diaz's wage.

Liverpool are also justified in selling, though. When you combine the two, it could be decided this summer that a sale suits everyone - especially when other clubs are actively pursuing the player.

Perhaps it will be a decision for Arne Slot and how important he judges Diaz to be. But if Liverpool decide they're open to a sale, it appears Barcelona will be in a position to make it happen.
