Retro kits are all the rage nowadays and it seems the designer of Manchester City’s 2017/18 home kit wants to take us all the way back to the halcyon days of … err … last season.

Photos emerged online on Tuesday of what is supposed to be City’s new home strip and many supporters were disappointed to discover that the shirt is very similar to the one worn by Pep Guardiola’s side in the 2016/17 season.

But the good news for those hoping for something new is that kit manufacturers Nike have at least mixed things up by adding white shorts and navy blue socks to next season’s kit.

City have occasionally worn navy blue socks in the event of a colour clash with their opponents over the years, but the last time they were a permanent feature of the club’s strip was back in 2001.

The Blues were relegated from the Premier League that season, but we suspect the reigning champions will be hoping to fare rather better next year.
