Manchester United have gagged former manager José Mourinho ahead of his first public appearance since being sacked by the club last month.

The Portuguese tactician is due to appear on beIN Sport later this week – first for their coverage of Qatar vs Saudi Arabia in the Asian Cup and then at the weekend when Arsenal host Chelsea.

But Mourinho will not be allowed to talk about his departure from Old Trafford after the club inserted a confidentiality clause in his severance package.

According to several reports, including one in The Times, Mourinho has been told by his former employer that their lawyers will be watching both broadcasts “very closely” and expect him to abide by the clause.

Mourinho is understood to have accepted the terms, and would lose part of his €17m severance should he say anything about his exit from the club.
