Raheem Sterling has reacted to Leonardo Bonucci’s suggestion that Moise Kean was partly to blame for racist abuse he received on Tuesday evening.
Kean was the target of abuse from Cagliari fans and that abuse only became more intense after the striker scored.
In celebration, he raised his arms aloft.
“The best way to respond to racism,” Kean wrote on Instagram after the game.
But not all of his team-mates necessarily agreed.
Speaking after the game, defender Leonardo Bonucci said:
“There were racist jeers after the goal, Blaise [Matuidi] heard it and was angered.
“I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldn’t have done that and the Curva should not have reacted that way.”
In response to that comment, Raheem Sterling has now taken to Instagram.
The game was temporarily stopped, with fans sent a warning that the game called be called off entirely if abuse continued.
Sterling has been the victim of racist abuse himself this season and has spoken intelligently on the matter in interviews. It’s little wonder he felt obliged to react to Bonucci’s comments.
