Inter took advantage of a massive opportunity on Monday evening.

The Nerazzurri won the Serie A title in the derby – that was the first time that either they or their city rivals had done so.

It’s not as though it was in any doubt that Inter would become champions sooner or later.

But the symbolic importance of clinching it against Milan was certainly huge.

There was plenty of motivation for Inter to wrap up the title in the derby. And, conversely, the Rossoneri were also clearly fired up to try and stop them.

That was evident from the intense celebrations of former Chelsea defender Fiyako Tomori when he got a goal back for Milan late in the match.

And it bubbled over as the Rossoneri players started to lose their heads. Two Milan player received red cards – as did Inter’s Denzel Dumfries.

Scaroni: Tough To Lose Yet Another Derby To Inter, Congratulations On Serie A Title

Monday’s match was the sixth consecutive derby in which Inter have prevailed.

Milan last won a derby in October of 2022. Since then, Inter have beaten their city rivals in the Supercoppa Italiana, Serie A, and the Champions League semifinals.

The Rossoneri’s President Scaroni admitted that “It was a very tough day for us on Monday.”

“We’d like to win the derby against Inter sometimes,” he continued.

Scaroni continued that “It was a good match.” There’s little denying that the 2-1 Nerazzurri win was an exciting and entertaining encounter.

“But rather than looking just at [Monday] I would rather look at our season as a whole.”

“Maybe it wasn’t excellent, but it was good – we’re second in the league, which is an excellent result.”

Scaroni said that “Inter absolutely deserved to win the title.”

“I have to congratulate them,” the Rossoneri President said. “Particularly Moratta and Antonello, with whom I often work on the stadium.”
