Xavi Hernandez’s prolonged stay at Barcelona may have a major impact in the club’s transfer market activity this coming summer.

It is no secret that the Spaniard has been pushing the board to sign top players for quite some time now. Barcelona, though, have limited finances and must act smart if they are to get hold of top players.

One of Barcelona’s priorities this summer is Joshua Kimmich, with the club identifying the Bayern Munich star as the ideal solution to the number six problem.

A potential market opportunity?

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Kimmich for a while now. But the club were never quite able to materialise a move due to economic limitations.

However, things have changed since and the coming summer could serve as a potential market opportunity for Barcelona, as they look to snap up Kimmich on a cut-price deal.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Kimmich could be available for a figure of just €30-35 million this summer, owing to his precarious situation at Bayern.

The player is not entirely happy with the board and might not renew his contract, which expires in 2025. Bayern, therefore, may have no choice but to offload him on a cut-price deal this summer.

Kimmich’s salary: An obstacle for Barcelona

While Barcelona should not find it too difficult to fund €30-35 million for Kimmich, the player’s salary poses a problem for the Blaugrana.

Kimmich’s net salary is about €8 million per season, which would be hard to assume for Barcelona, under the club’s new wage structure.

Nevertheless, Barcelona can always find solutions to free up the wage bill, including the potential departure of a star player such as Frenkie de Jong.

As for Kimmich, his desire to play for Barça is known and the German international is also a huge admirer of Xavi Hernandez – factors that should play in the hands of Barcelona.
