Mundo Deportivo reports that Xavi Simons (21) would like to return to Barcelona, the club where he developed as an academy player.

On loan from Paris Saint-Germain, Simons has excelled this season in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, with his performances dictating that there is no shortage of interested parties in the midfielder.

Barcelona would normally face a difficult task in convincing the French champions to come to the negotiating table considering the two clubs’ frosty relationship, however, Mundo Deportivo states that there is a cause in the Dutchman’s contract that allows him to pick where he would like to go on loan.

With a transfer fee rumoured to be set at around €100 million, it’s thought that the only way Barcelona would be able to open the doors to a return for their La Masia product would be if Simons requests a loan to the club, which the paper believes he is likely to do.

PSG still have plans for Xavi Simons

Of course, the problem for Barcelona is that this relies on PSG wanting to loan Simons out next season. There have been reports within France that the club and Luis Enrique would like to make the talented midfielder a key part of the post-Mbappé project from next season.
