In a recent report, L’Equpe claimed that Manchester City are among the clubs hoping to sign Real Madrid ace Ferland Mendy. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian club will have to rival Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to land the France international this summer.

Mendy’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football

Mendy is enjoying a solid season at the Spanish club as he has put in a run of impressive displays on the left side of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. The French full-back has featured in 32 matches for Los Blancos during this campaign, scoring one goal across various competitions.

The 28-year-old has been a decent performer on the left flank based on his average of 0.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.9 clearances per game in La Liga. He has also been careful when distributing the ball after completing 94.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Spanish club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Man City to sign him on the cheap in the summer transfer window.

Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Move In For Mendy?

Mendy is a good tackler of the ball and can make the odd interception for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from the back.

We can expect Mendy to bring more quality to Man City’s defence. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Etihad Stadium in the future. Thus, Pep Guardiola should focus on moving in for Mendy when the transfer window commences at the end of this campaign.

At 28, Mendy is playing in his prime and could help the Mancunian giants challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Plus, he has got a lot of experience in the UEFA Champions League and could be a real asset for Man City in European football in the coming years. All in all, Mendy would be a decent option for the Premier League outfit to consider in the upcoming transfer window.
