Spanish tactician Quique, for his part, took up the reins at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán back in December, amid nothing short of a nightmare opening to the campaign.

And the former Valencia and Watford boss, to his credit, has since gone about guiding the Nervionenses comfortably clear of the La Liga relegation zone.

Despite as much, speculation has nevertheless continued to swirl when it comes to Quique’s future beyond the summer, amid links with the likes of Jagoba Arrasate, and Raúl González.

If the latest word stemming from the media late on Sunday is anything to go by, however, then Quique need not fret.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of the aforementioned ED that the call has been made – the 59-year-old will be going nowhere this summer.

Sevilla president José María del Nido Carrasco is the leading voice behind Quique’s continuity, ready to sit down for talks over an imminent contract extension.

Sporting director Víctor Orta is understood to favour the Raúl track, but rank has been pulled in the boardroom in Andalusia, with Quique the chosen one for next season.
