Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has turned heads across Spain on Wednesday evening.

As much comes owing to the German’s comments regarding his side’s recent victory over arch rivals Barcelona.

The latest edition of El Clásico, of course, played out this past weekend.

When all was said and done in an entertaining affair at the Santiago Bernabéu, it was hosts Real who emerged on the right side of a 3-2 result.

This came after Los Blancos twice battled back from a goal down, before Jude Bellingham completed the turnaround with the game’s decisive goal late on.

The clash, from a neutral point of view at least, certainly lived up to its billing, with the five goals scored having also been accompanied by a predicted dose of drama in Madrid.

And yet, one individual to have taken to the pitch in the Clásico who was left far from impressed by the standard on show was the aforementioned Toni Kroos.

Speaking on his personal podcast, Einfach mal Luppen (as cited by Marca), on Wednesday, midfielder Kroos revealed his opinion that both Real and Barcelona were far from their best:

“The truth is that it was not a good match in terms of level, it must be said. Both sides. Both made many mistakes and lost many balls.”

From here, the German international could not help but follow up with a thinly-veiled dig at his side’s Clásico rivals, in adding:

“In reality, it was a match that if we had played well, we could have beaten them 4-0. Really, they didn’t have much drive, especially in the first-half.”
